Place and connect electrical symbols
Place devices at the right location, create shared cover frames and connect electrical symbols to the appropriate topology.
A symbol on the floor plan first describes its physical location. Linking it to the electrical topology turns it into an assigned consumer or item of equipment for a circuit, diagram and documents.
Place symbols from the palette
In Floor plan, open the tool palette and select a socket, switch, light, fixed appliance, box or distribution board. The tool icons are shown in the palette; pointing at one shows its name.
- Select the symbol tool.
- Place wall-mounted devices on the correct side of the wall. Sockets and switches snap to walls.
- Place free lights or spots in the room.
- Check the position, orientation and symbol variant after placing it.
A symbol can only be placed where the editor identifies a valid location. The preview shows the final geometry before you commit it. Correct the wall or room first if a symbol will not snap where you intend.
Create shared cover frames
An installation group is a physical combination with a shared two- to five-gang cover frame. It is not a switch chain and not a circuit.
Drag suitable devices together on the same wall side, or start the cover-frame tool. In the Installation group panel, choose horizontal or vertical and complete it with Done. Moving one member moves the combination.
Switches, standard sockets, Ethernet and coax outlets can be grouped. IP44 sockets remain excluded because they use a sealed frame. Passive data outlets do not become 230 V consumers as a result.
Link the device to electrical topology
Open the placed device's properties and link it to a type-compatible node in the electrical topology. Socket, switch and light variants are treated as matching families. Connection and junction boxes only become electrically effective when they are genuinely linked.
Then review the list of unconnected components. It shows symbols that are located on the floor plan but are not yet part of the electrical model.
Keep these concepts separate:
- Position: where is the device on the floor plan?
- Installation group: which inserts share one cover frame?
- Topology: which electrical node belongs to the device?
- Circuit: which protective device supplies that node?
Changing a cover frame changes neither a switching function nor a circuit assignment. Next, edit the switch chain for lighting control and assign devices to a circuit for electrical supply.
Check before continuing
- Every symbol is in its intended real-world location.
- Wall-mounted devices are aligned to the right wall side.
- Cover-frame combinations represent the intended mounting, not assumed wiring.
- All electrical devices are linked to the appropriate topology node.
